Helping verb

1. expressing the future in indirect speech

I said she would come to my party.

2. expressing condition

I would buy it, if I had the money. ー I do not buy it, because I have no money.

3. expressing past habitual action

When I was young, I would listen to the radio at night.
She would say that, wouldn't she?

4. expressing intention or determination

Bob is very poor, but she would marry him.
The door wouldn't open.
